News of the week

 The President established a temporary procedure for residents to acquire exclusive rights to the results of intellectual activity or means of individualization from individuals in unfriendly countries.

Permission from the Governmental Commission for Control over Foreign Investment in the Russian Federation will be required to carry out such transactions. Remuneration and other payments under the transaction will be transferred to a special O-type rouble account in an authorised bank, which is opened by the acquirer in the name of the copyright holder or foreign creditor (for the transfer of funds in order to fulfil obligations under guarantees or sureties). It will be possible to write off funds from a special account in favour of the copyright holder (foreign creditor) only with the permission of the Governmental Commission.

The established procedure does not apply to the acquisition of rights to scientific, literary or artistic works, results of performing arts, phonograms, information on broadcasting or cable broadcasting organisations, as well as transactions worth no more than 15 million roubles.
